Dear Member:

If you import any personal protective equipment or medical devices, you’ll be interested to know that the US Trade Representative (USTR) is now evaluating the merits of individual exemption filings on the basis of companies responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The USTR last month announced that it would continue to receive official public comments from companies on potential modifications to existing Section 301 tariffs. The Trump Administration as created a window of opportunity to allow companies to import certain kinds of goods in line with COVID-19 pandemic tariff free.

Key Highlights

  • Products must fit into relevant categories linked to the medical response to the coronavirus.
  • Any changes to tariff policy would likely be modifications to existing tariff lists
  • Public comments via the docket will be taken until at least June 25, 2020.

If you have any arguments you would like to make about your imports being relevant within these parameters, do not hesitate to reach out to the ACMA or the Vogel Group teams.
